What are Reach-in Refrigerators?

Reach-in refrigerators or reach-in coolers are like residential fridges with shelving except they hold larger quantities for commercial needs and may include a glass-front door so users can quickly locate the items they need, reach in, and grab them.

It’s the type of unit that is part of medical or restaurant equipment. This type of unit allows for a large storage capacity with convenient organization and inventory tracking. A commercial reach-in refrigerator is highly durable for commercial needs.

HABCO’s selection consists of commercial reach-in refrigerators that have either one solid door, two solid doors, or glass doors. Having a refrigerator with a glass door allows full visibility of the inventory, limiting the number of times the door is open, thereby saving you money. Solid doors are comparably less expensive and more energy-efficient.

Do I Need a Top or Bottom-mounted Compressor?

Unlike the mainstream model of a commercial fridge that has a non-removable bottom-mounted compressor, evaporator, and condenser, HABCO models use Cassette® refrigeration. This means that our system is removable and self-contained for simplified maintenance and replacement. 

It is also bottom-mounted, which is best for hot environments. The compressor will be closer to the cool floor and won’t need to work too hard. Top-mounted compressors are better suited for bakeries and pizzerias since they use a lot of flour and other dust-like ingredients. Additionally, you will save money by keeping the doors closed during maintenance checks since you don’t need them open to access the system.

What Temperature Should a Reach-in Refrigerator Be?

Reach-in refrigerators keep food and medical supplies cool at safe temperatures. According to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the best temperature range commercial refrigerators should be programmed for is 5℃ (41℉) and 3.3℃ (38℉).  

What is a Reach-in Cooler?

A reach-cooler can be an upright unit and is sometimes called a reach-in refrigerator. But coolers come in other variations, such as over and under-counter models.
